New Here? Welcome!

Hello, you. Yes, you, the one who’s been hovering by our virtual front door, wondering if you’re "creative enough" to step inside. Maybe you’ve seen our posts, felt a little spark of interest, but then thought, “I can't sew,” or “I don't know whether I'll enjoy journaling”

First off: breathe. You are exactly who we built The Creative Nook for.

We know that walking into a new space or starting a new skill can feel a little daunting. Will I know what to do? Will I fit in?  To take the "scary" out of the equation, we created our free Discovery Session.

Launching this summer, and being held on the first Friday every month, this isn't just a workshop; it’s a welcome mat. It’s a low-stakes, high-comfort invitation to see if our slow, mindful making fits your soul. It’s two hours of "you time" that asks absolutely nothing of you except your presence.

No expectations. No pressure to be 'perfect'. Just tea, a quiet corner, and the gentle hum of creativity.

What is a Discovery Session, Exactly?

Think of a Discovery Session as a creative taster menu. It’s a dedicated two-hour slot designed specifically for those who haven't visited us before.

Here is the lowdown:

  • Duration: 2 hours of unhurried time.

  • Cost: Completely free. Zero. Zilch.

  • The Vibe: Calm, quiet, and deeply welcoming.

  • The Refreshments: A bottomless pot of tea (or coffee) and the "good" biscuits.

  • The Goal: To help you reconnect with your hands and quiet your mind.

I don’t do "lessons" here in the traditional sense. There are no grades, and nobody is checking your work. Instead, I offer a gentle guided journey. Whether you want to chat or sit in comfortable silence, the space is yours. It’s about the art of noticing; the way a particular thread looks against a scrap of linen, or the satisfying weight of a pen on textured paper.

First Choose Your Creative Practice

Before you select your materials, you get to choose one of our three signature Discovery paths. Each one is designed to be beginner-friendly but deeply satisfying.

Slow Stitching Sampler

If you find yourself frazzled by the pace of ordinary life, this is your remedy. Slow stitching is a meditative ritual that focuses on the simple movement of needle and thread. You’ll create a small fabric collage using layered textiles and simple, rhythmic stitches. It’s not about embroidery perfection; it’s about the tactile joy of the process.

A Reflective Journal page

Perfect for the nature-lovers. We provide the prompts and the seasonal inspirations, think sprigs of rosemary, dried petals, or vintage botanical prints. You’ll work on a piece of beautiful hand-made paper, experimenting with mark-making, collage, and quiet reflection. It’s a way to capture the passing of time through a mindful lens.

Memory Stick Making

A more sculptural, sensory experience. Based on an Aboriginal journey stick ritual: using a wooden stick as your base, you’ll wrap, tie, and adorn it with materials and treasures. It becomes a physical talisman of your time spent at the Nook, a reminder that you are allowed to be still and creative.

A Visit to The Maker’s Pantry

Before you even start creating, we invite you to participate in one of our favourite Nook rituals: A visit to The Maker’s Pantry.

In the world outside these walls, everything is rushed. Here, we slow down the process and select our materials.

When you arrive, you’ll be handed a shallow bowl. You’ll wander over to the Maker’s Pantry: a curated collection of materials and "treasure."

You might find:

  • Scraps of hand-dyed linen in seasonal tones.

  • Vintage buttons that have a history of their own.

  • Pressed wildflowers from the local meadows.

  • Thread in every shade of a Spring  morning.

  • Ribbons, lace, and tiny charms.

There is something deeply grounding about the tactile experience of choosing your own materials. We encourage you to run your fingers over the textiles, to feel the grain of the paper, and to let your intuition pick the colours that speak to you. This isn't about perfection; it’s about a considered combination of textures & colour that feel right in your hand.
